Born in Marseille in October 1997, Theo Hernández, son of French ex-player Jean-François Hernández, and brother to Lucas, began his footballing career in the youth system at Majadahonda. Not long after, he was transfered to Atlético Madrid, where he made his debut in the B squad in the Tercera Division.
After going out on loan to Alavés the following season, he was soon snapped up by Real Madrid after an impressive campaign. His first season with the Galácticos started with a win in the European Super Cup and finished with a Champions League victory. After a year out on loan at Real Sociedad, AC Milan came calling and signed up his services.
If his first season in AC Milan was good - seven goals in 36 appearances - his second was even better. In helping the Rossoneri get a place back into the Champions League, Theo showed himself to be the best left-back in the league with seven goals in 33 league games (eight in 45 if you count the Coppa Italia and Europa League campaigns). As the proverb says, "all good things come in threes", and so it did in the 2021/22 season: Theo managed to rack up 41 games in all competitions with five goals and ten assists, including one of the most iconic goals of the Scudetto race against Atalanta. Now an experienced figure in Rossoneri colours, Theo, as of June 2023, has netted 24 times in 167 appearances for AC Milan across all competitions.
His constant growth has also been on display for the senior French national team. In September 2021, he made his debut against Finland. A month later - against Belgium at San Siro in the semi-finals of a Nations League campaign that the French went on to win - he scored his first goal. Hernández was also an important figure in France's 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, featuring in six out of seven matches (including the final against Argentina) and scoring in the semi-finals against Morocco.
