Massimo Oddo's first experience as a coach came with Genoa as the coach of their Allievi Regionali (U16). In 2014, he returned to his hometown of Pescara to take charge of the Biancazzurri's Primavera. His first experience in charge of a first team was at the end of the 2014/15 season in Serie B when he replaced Marco Baroni at the helm for Pescara. He took the Delfini all the way to the play-off final, but they were beaten by Bologna. His first taste of promotion came the following season: after a 4th-place finish, Oddo's Pescara qualified for the play-offs and beat Novara and Trapani to make it back to Serie A. His first spell in the top flight, however, was not a fortunate one as he was relieved of his duties in February 2017 with the Delfini bottom of the league. In November 2017, he was appointed by Udinese and began on a roll with five straight wins in December, but he departed the club in April due to a string of subpar results. After seven games with Crotone in Serie B in 2018, he took charge of Padova in 2022. He won the Serie C Coppa Italia with the Venetian outfit and reached the play-off final, losing to Palermo. In February 2023, he moved to SPAL in Serie B but was unable to save them from relegation to Serie C. Before moving to Milan Futuro in February 2025, he had another spell at Padova, with whom his campaign finished in the second play-off round against Vincenza.
