After taking his first steps as a footballer in the youth teams at Virtus Adrense, Davide, at the age of 11, was identified and asked to join the club by AC Milan talent scouts. Starting off in a central-midfield role in the Esordienti level, he immediately began to show his ability with both feet, and in attacking and defending phases of the game. In 2014, he reached the Primavera squad, and under the leadership of Filippo Inzaghi, became a fundamental part of the AC Milan team that won the Viareggio Cup.
He made his Serie A and first-team debut on 30 May 2015, at the age of 18, and lifted his first trophy the following season, a win over Juventus on penalties in the Supercoppa Italiana. An Italy call-up soon followed, 9 April 2017 to be exact, after making several impressive appearances for the Azzurri's younger age group teams.
His development and progress continued into the following seasons, where he gradually became a mainstay and reference point in the Rossoneri's backline. In the blessed 2020/21 season, he played a significant role in earning AC Milan a return to the Champions League with 32 appearances and two goals, and he made his international debut in a friendly against Estonia. In 2021/22, meanwhile, he scored the fastest Serie A goal of the season in Bergamo against Atalanta and took over the captain's armband on several occasions before becoming the official captain from the 2022/23 campaign. As of June 2023, he has featured 217 times in all competitions, scoring eight times, and become one of the league's best right-backs.
