Born in Madrid on 23 October 1992, Álvaro Morata began his footballing journey in the youth system at Atlético before moving to Getafe and subsequently Real Madrid in 2008. He would make his professional debut with Los Blancos against Real Zaragoza in LaLiga in the same year. After 50 competitive appearances with the club, he moved to Italy in 2014 to join Juventus where he spent two good years, making 93 appearances and scoring a number of important goals, especially in the Champions League. His next move took him back to Real (15 goals in 26 league games in 2016/16) before signing for Chelsea. He stayed in London until January 2019 until returning to the Spanish capital, this time to Atlético.
He has split his last 5-and-a-half years between the Rojiblancos, with whom he reached 58 goals (21 in 2023/24), and a two-year spell with Juventus between 2020 and 2022. A technical, physical and quick player, he is particularly gifted in the air and in linking up with his teammates. Morata's career is one rich with successes and trophies, including two Champions Leagues and a Club World Cup with Real Madrid and two Scudetti with Juventus. Álvaro has also become a mainstay up top for Spain, who he captained to victory in UEFA Euro 2024. A goal machine for La Roja at youth level, he has carried that form to full international football with 36 goals in 80 games (as of July 2024), becoming Spain's fourth-highest goalscorer of all time. The recent European Championship title isn't his only international honour, having helped Spain to victory in the UEFA Nations League in 2022/23.
