AC MILAN 1989/90 ROSTER

SERIE A

Arrigo Sacchi was still in charge of a squad that had won the European Cup against Steaua at Camp Nou just months prior. The squad was reinforced with the arrivals of Marco Simone, Diego Fuser and Giovanni Stroppa. In the league, it was a neck-and-neck battle with Maradona's Napoli, with the Neapolitans edging ahead in the final stretch as the Rossoneri experienced a slight dip in form. The journey in the Coppa Italia was also notable, culminating in reaching the final. However, it was Juventus who emerged victorious in the inaugural match at the newly refurbished San Siro, renovated for the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

EUROPEAN CUP, EUROPEAN SUPER CUP AND INTERCONTINENTAL CUP

The Rossoneri were competitive on all fronts and the first trophy of the season came at the start of December, as AC Milan won the European Super Cup for the first time in their history with a win over two legs against Barcelona. On 17 December, we won title number two of the season with an Evani last-minute winner against Colombian side Atlético Nacional to seal the Club's second Intercontinental Cup. The season wasn't over though and, at the Praterstadion in Vienna, the Rossoneri were crowned champions of Europe for the second year running (4th title overall), beating Benfica thanks to Rijkaard's goal. At the end of the season, the Ballon d'Or podium was dominated by the Rossoneri: van Basten, Baresi, Rijkaard.
