After making his debut at Nuorese and achieving success at Cagliari, Pietro Paolo Virdis spent time at Juventus and Udinese, with varying degrees of success. In 1984, in his footballing prime, he signed for AC Milan. Top goalscorer in the Serie A in the 1986-87 season, he etched his name into the club’s history on the first of May, 1988, when his brace at San Paolo Stadium in Naples pushed the Rossoneri above Maradona’s team in the league. In addition to the league title, he won the first European Champion Clubs’ Cup in Sacchi’s Era the following year.
