PRIMAVERA DERBY ENDS ALL SQUARE

A valiant display from the Rossoneri, who rescue a late point despite being down to ten men

AC Milan Primavera aren’t giving up: after their recent struggles, the team produced a valiant performance in the derby today, coming away with a 2-2 draw despite finishing the game with ten men. It was a thrilling encounter, with the Rossoneri opening the scoring after 17 minutes through Nasti (his 15th goal of the season) before seeing their lead evaporate at the start of the second half. However, in the 89th minute, El Hilali grabbed an equaliser for Coach Terni’s side, who were a man down following Bosisio’s sending-off.

All in all, it was a positive display from AC Milan - especially in the first half - and the result will surely give the side a real confidence boost, which was very much needed as the season draws to a close. The final chapter (of the regular season, at least) will be written next weekend, when Genoa will be the visitors to Vismara. It’ll be a decisive showdown, with AC Milan needing a point to be absolutely sure of finishing above the playout zone.

MATCH REPORT
Under the watchful eye of Italy Head Coach Roberto Mancini, the Rossoneri took to the pitch in a 3-5-2 formation with Lazetić and Nasti selected up front. The game was devoid of any real chances early on, even if Fabbian threatened with a long-range strike for Inter in the eleventh minute. At the other end, Nasti was beaten to the ball by Botis after Borges’ excellent cross (13’). AC Milan then showed a clinical side, taking the lead in the 17th minute through Marco Nasti, who got the better of Cortinovis and Hoti to strike on the counter. It was a goal that galvanised the Rossoneri, who were the more purposeful side for the rest of the first half. As for Inter, the best they could muster up in the opening 45 was a header from Jürgens that finished narrowly off target. With 29 minutes on the clock, Nasti came close to making it two with a shot across goal that skimmed past the far post. Then, in the 37th minute, Lazetić won possession high up the pitch and found Foglio, who was thwarted by Botis’ fists.

The second half started in the worst way possible: in the 46th minute, the trajectory of Franco Carboni’s cross deceived Desplanches, resulting in an Inter equaliser. Foglio had a headed effort as AC Milan looked to respond; however, the Nerazzurri then went in front thanks to a goal from Fabbian (58’). Coach Terni shook things up - Marshage was sent on for his Primavera debut - and, in the 73rd minute, two substitutes combined to create a big opportunity: El Hilali picked out Traorè, whose effort was deflected inches wide. Nasti had another chance shortly afterwards, before the Rossoneri were reduced to ten men following a second booking for Bosisio. However, AC Milan kept believing and grabbed an equaliser after 89 minutes: a low strike from El Hilali took a deflection and beat Botis. Nasti and Fabbian had a chance each to win it for their respective sides in added time, but the derby ultimately ended in a draw.
