SEMI-FINAL FIRST LEG DECIDED AT THE DEATH: 0-2 ROMA

Balanced game but Haavi at 83' and Pilgrim at 91' won the Coppa Italia clash at the PUMA House of Football

The Rossonere fell to Roma in the final moments of the Women's Coppa Italia semi-final first leg. At the end of a good performance from Corti's side, Haavi in the 83rd minute and Pilgrim at 91' made the difference between the two sides. Our girls were left with some regrets after going toe-to-toe with the best side in the league for a good part of the game, often good in transitional play but lacking a bit of brutality up front.

After the last two league wins against Sampdoria and Inter, the Rossonere showed progress in play and personality, but have finally stumbled against a Roma side that knows how to finish on a high, as they did in the first league clash this season. Qualification is closer for the Giallorosse, but it will be important to keep our hopes up and believe in ourselves, ahead of the return fixture in Rome on Sunday at 15:00 CET at the Tre Fontane.

MATCH REPORT
The game got off to a good start for both sides with the first chance coming for the Rossonere in the 2nd minute, good build-up play and a shot from Vigilucci on the edge of the box that went high. Roma, safe from the first danger, sat deep and kept hold of the ball. Chances then also came for the Giallorosse: Guagni blocked Pilgrim well in the 11th minute, and Giugliano hit the post from a free kick in the 15th minute. Attacking from all angles, Marinelli had it in the net in the 16th minute but play was stopped for an offside. Us again in the 22nd minute with Nadim who couldn't quite finish off the good cross from Guagni. The last chance of the first half came for Roma, Giacinti in the 44th minute, the shot went just wide. We were the better side after the break with two chances after no time: Nadim couldn't quite guide it in with a header on the free kick from Mascarello.

Marinelli was more dangerous a minute later, running with the ball and unleashing a powerful shot that went just over the bar. Giuliani saved one from Giacinti in the 53rd minute and then it was Bartoli to save the day in the Giallorosse box after a good move from Nadim. Big chance for Roma in the 62nd minute, Giugliano shot from a good position and beat the keeper to hit the crossbar. Dompig tried twice, once in the 78th minute with a volley on the cross from Guagni that went high, and then from the edge of the box with a strong but straight shot. Roma lay in waiting and pounced in the 83rd minute with Haavi, picking up a clearance from the defence to slot it perfectly into the corner of the net. A goal down, the Rossonere pushed forward and went close to an equaliser in the 89th minute when Kumagi stopped Laurent. On the counter, Pilgrim managed to double the lead in the 91st minute, surprising Giuliani at the near post. Final score, 0-2.
