ROSSONERE, IT'S SEMIFINAL TIME! 3-0 WIN v SASSUOLO

Two goals up already after 15', AC Milan advance in the Italian Cup with a commendable performance

Mission accomplished! AC Milan secure a place in the Women's Coppa Italia Semifinal. The Rossonere did so by defeating Sassuolo in the return leg of the Quarter-finals at the PUMA House of Football, prevailing 3-0: the same scoreline as the first leg on 18 January. The match was effectively sealed by Corti's team within the first 15 minutes with goals from Grimshaw and Dompig, with Stašková's strike (her fifth goal in 2024) towards the end sealing the final score. Applause all around for the Rossonere, who took the field today in the Third Kit and delivered an excellent performance throughout the entire 90 minutes on both ends of the pitch.

Reaching the penultimate stage of the cup - achieved for the fifth consecutive edition, not counting the 2019/20 season suspended due to the pandemic - is therefore a well-deserved reward for the squad. Noteworthy was the debut trident of Nadim-Dompig-Ijeh and, in addition to the goalscorers of the day, the spirited performance from Soffia. Now the wait is on to discover the opponent for the two-legged Semifinal tie, namely the winner between Roma and Napoli (with the return leg, after Napoli's 2-0 lead in the first leg, scheduled for Wednesday 7 February). The Italian Cup will resume in March, and this weekend it will be another showdown against Sassuolo: the match will be played in Emilia and will be a crucial encounter for our future in the league.

MATCH REPORT
Despite the advantage from the first leg, the Rossonere started with the right attitude from the kick-off and took the lead in the 4'. Soffia's recovery in an advanced position, passing the ball to Vigilucci, who rewarded Grimshaw's central run with a well-placed low shot. AC Milan continued to press and the Rossonere sealed the tie in the 15th minute: Grimshaw once again the protagonist, releasing a relentless Dompig through on goal, who beat Kresche on her way out. There was only one team on the field, with the Rossonere coming close to a third goal in the 22nd minute (Nadim missed control after a fine acceleration by Ijeh) and in the 29th minute - after a providential clearance by Soffia in defense against Simon - when Vigilucci tested Kresche.

The start of the second half saw few chances (similar to the final quarter-hour of the first half), with Marinelli - on the field after the interval in place of Fusetti - shining with a curling left-footed effort just over the bar in the 60th minute. The Rossonere controlled the game and conceded very little in their defensive half. There was also room for Asllani and Stašková, and it was number 21 who scored the third goal in the 78': Andrea was quick to pounce on Kresche's save from Vigilucci's volley and slot it home. In the closing stages, Sassuolo showed some attacking intent with a couple of attempts that didn't trouble Babb too much, and Laurent also had a chance on the breakaway, without luck. The final whistle blew with the score of 3-0 to the Rossonere!
