WOMEN'S COPPA ITALIA, AC MILAN v ROMA: MATCH PREVIEW

Rossonere await the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg

"The Coppa Italia is real possibility", according to Angelica Soffia, in an interview given to us during the week. The competition is now getting serious and sees the Rossonere face a two-legged semi-final tie against league leaders, Roma. It is certainly going to be a tough game against a side who is having a great year in Serie A and remain favourites for the Scudetto. But Coach Ganz's team is in excellent form that gives them hope of taking a scalp and setting up a place in the final. Kick-off is at 14:00 CET on Sunday 5 March at PUMA House of Football

LATEST FROM PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
2023 has so far been successful, with seven wins out of nine, in all competitions, including a top-class performance last time out away in Seregno against Como. The team is undoubtedly in good shape, but now face a stiff test against Rome, who won 2-0 in the two sides' last meeting at PUMA House of Football. The run in the Coppa Italia has seen the Rossonere eliminate Ternana and Lazio in the group stage, and then Fiorentina in a two-legged quarter-final. With respect to the previous game, Coach Ganz will be without Asllani and Mascarello, with Árnadóttir and Thomas also absent. For the game, the home side will wear the new 4th Kit made in collaboration with PUMA and the Paris fashion house KOCHÉ.

Coach Ganz on the eve of the game said: "We're coming into the game on the back of good form, we'll be looking to fight hard. We're well aware the qualification is decided over two games, but we must give our all in this first leg."

Here is the Rossonere squad for the game: Babb, Fedele, Giuliani; Carage, Fusetti, Guagni, Mesjasz, Nouwen, Soffia, Thrige; Adami, Bahlouli, Dubcová K, Grimshaw, Vigilucci; Bergamaschi, Dubcová M., Piemonte, Sevenius.

LATEST FROM ROMA
Under the leadership of Alessandro Spugna, the Giallorosse are having an outstanding season: 16 wins from 18 games in the first phase of the league campaign, amassing 48 points, eight ahead of Juventus. So far in the Coppa Italia, they have beaten off Arezzo, Como and Pomigliano, with 2023 bringing eight wins and a draw, out of nine games played. Just as for the Rossonere, they are in excellent form. This season, Roma have shown they know how to win in varying ways: with quality, domination, but also when not at their best. They have a group of core players and the recent renewals of Bartoli and Haavi until 2025, and Di Guglielmo until 2026, only consolidate this strength. Spugna will have almost everyone available to him, with only Roman Haug out, who has recently undergone an ankle operation.

PRE-MATCH
This is the second time AC Milan and Roma have met in the Coppa Italia, after the final on 30 May 2021, won by the Giallorosse on penalties, after ending 0-0 after normal and extra-time. This is AC Milan's fourth venture into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia. In the previous three, the Rossonere have been eliminated twice (against Juventus in 2018/19 and 2021/22), while going through to the last stage of the competition in the 2020/21 edition, where they played Roma. In this first leg, the side with the best attack in the Coppa Italia (Roma, 14 goals) is coming up against the team with the best defensive record, considering they have played two games more (AC Milan, one goal conceded in four games).
