WOMEN, ROMA v AC MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW

The Rossonere's first big match in Serie A: all you need to know ahead of the game

It's time to quickly forget the opening day defeat to Fiorentina and turn the page. This is the message for Ganz's side as they face a tricky trip this weekend to Rome for matchday 2 of the 2022/23 Women's Serie A season. With the recent international break now over, the Rossonere face a Giallorosse side, and direct rival, who won their opening game 2-0 at Pomigliano. Here is our preview for the the big-match, scheduled for Saturday 10 September at 14:30 CEST.

LATEST FROM PUMA HOUSE OF FOOTBALL
Ganz will be putting his trust in former Roma forward Lindsey Thomas to prevent a third consecutive defeat in the league. The French striker netted twice against her former club last season in her first year as a Rossonere player: a goal in the Cup semi-final and one in Serie A. Kosovare Asllani will be looking for her second of the season after her opening-day debut goal against Fiorentina. She hasn't scored in two successive games since June 2021 wearing the Real Madrid shirt.

Here is the squad list for the match: Babb, Beka, Giuliani; Árnadóttir, Carage, Fusetti, Guagni, Mesjasz, Soffia, Thrige, Tucceri Cimini; Adami, K. Dubcová, Grimshaw, Mascarello, Vigilucci; Asllani, Bergamaschi, M. Dubcová, Piemonte, Thomas.

On the eve of the game, Coach Ganz said: "It's going to be a tough game against a team who is in great form but we're ready. A few players aren't at full fitness yet but we'll give everything to try and bring home the points"

LATEST FROM ROMA
The Giallorosse finished second in last season's Serie A behind AC Milan, and will once again be feared this year. Out of all the current sides in Serie A, they are currently on the longest unbeaten run and have kept a clean sheet in their last three matches. Players to watch out for are former AC Milan player Giacinti, who scored on the opening day, and Andressa Alves, who got both goals against the Rossonere in last season's league games, and has four league goals in 2022 so far. Only Paloma Lázaro has done better from Spugna's squad, scoring seven.

"I expect to see an AC Milan with prominent players, hungry for revenge", said Alessandro Spugna. "We have never won against them, so we want to break this taboo".

PRE-MATCH
Ganz's side had the better of Roma last season with a 1-1 draw in both the home and away league games, before beating the Giallorosse in the Supercup semi-final 2-1. Overall, AC Milan are unbeaten against the side from the capital in Serie A, thanks to five wins (in their first five meetings) and three draws (the last three games, of which two were in the capital). In total, six out of the ten previous encounters between the two sides in all competitions have gone in favour of the side from Milan.
