What an afternoon for Maurizio Ganz's AC Milan! The Rossonere put in one of their best performances of the season - perhaps their best, considering the calibre of their opponents - and won 4-0 over the formidable Sampdoria. A scoreline that could have been bigger, given the fact both Codina and Longo hit the crossbar as well as the several chances denied by Sampdoria's goalkeeper Tampieri. At the Vismara stadium, we saw a proactive and prodigal display from AC Milan right from the off. With this win, they secured their second consecutive victory in the championship and built on the momentum gained from their first outings in 2022.
Goals came from each part of the attacking trio: Lindsey Thomas scored twice, her second in a Rossonero shirt (eight goals in all the different competitions), as well as Valentina Bergamaschi and Martina Piemonte, with the latter bagging her first goal in an AC Milan jersey. Alia Guagni's hattrick of assists in the first half should also not go without mention. in what was simply a perfect afternoon for the Rossonere, securing their eighth clean sheet of the season. Now another fixture with Sampdoria is on the horizon, but for the first leg of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals: it will be played on Sunday at 12:30 away at Sampdoria.

MATCH REPORT
Ganz made two changes to the line-up for Ganz from the match against Hellas Verona, with Codina returning from a suspension in defence and Piemonte slotting into the offensive trident. It was a very lively start from the Rossonere, who were on the front foot from the very first minute and looked dangerous from the off with chances for Thomas and Grimshaw coming in the tenth minute followed by a header from Codina 11 minutes in. Another chance came in the 15th minute with Piemonte, who forced an excellent save out of Tampieri. It was only a matter of time before we scored our first and it came in the 21st minute: Guagni's cross from the right was met by Thomas' splendid header for a deserved lead. Samp took the blow and AC Milan doubled their lead with a carbon copy of the first: in the 31st minute Guagni sent in another cross and this time it was Bergamaschi with the header. In the 34th minute, Alia's third assist of the day found Piemonte who headed in her first goal for the Rossonere. Martina almost got the fourth in the 36th minute, but Tampieri intervened.
The Rossonere were also on top at the start of the second half, with two chances falling to Grimshaw: In the 51st minute, Rizza's block prevented the goal, then in the 52nd minute, Tarenzi denied Christy with a clearance off the line. AC Milan did not let off, enjoying themselves in attack and keeping Tampieri very busy. In the 64th minute, Codina's header hit the crossbar, and Piemonte's tap-in was denied by the Doriana defence. In the 72nd minute, Thomas set up Adami, whose shot from the edge of the box went wide. 85 minutes in, the Rossonere hit the crossbar once again from a corner, this time from new signing Longo, with Grimshaw's shot from the rebound going wide. In the second half, Adami assisted Thomas, who finished clinically to make it 4-0.
