ROSSONERE, IT ENDS WITH A DRAW: 2-2 WITH VERONA

A goal from Dowie in the first half and Tamborini in the second; AC Milan finish on 51 points

AC Milan's Serie A Femminile campaign in 2020/21 comes to a close with a 2-2 after they twice came from behind against Verona at Vismara. The Rossonere end the season on 51 points, equalling their best-ever tally in a single season. On an afternoon that saw game time given to some of those, who haven't been involved as much over the course of the season, the Rossonere rediscovered their goalscoring mojo. A twelfth league goal of the season for Natasha Dowie and the second for young Sara Tamborini, who came on for the Englishwoman at halftime, saw AC Milan finish the season as the division's second-best attack.

With next Sunday's Coppa Italia final on their minds, the Rossonere put in a display replete with desire, twice finding the equaliser and refusing to end a historic season in defeat. Attention now turns to the game (Sunday 30 May, 20:45 CEST) against Roma in Reggio Emilia, as the Rossonere look to write another page in their history.

REPORT
Maurizio Ganz made a raft of changes - likely in view of next weekend's Final - with Spinelli, Mauri, Rizza and Salvatore Rinaldi named in the starting XI. In a tight opening period, and after a chance on five minutes for Hasegawa, Verona took the lead through Jelenčić (12'), who fired home from 30 metres out - Babb had no chance. The Rossonere didn't capitulate and managed to grind through the gears, coming close to an equaliser through Dowie in the 26th minute (her header was saved by Durante with the help of the crossbar) and Hasegawa two minutes later. A goal was coming, however, and finally arrived in the 38th minute; Dowie latched onto an error from the guests and bagged her twelfth goal of the season.

The second half began at a much slower tempo, with Ganz making two changes at halftime: Babb for Piazza between the sticks and Sara Tamborini on as well. After plenty of possession for the Rossonere, the guests took the lead against the run of play through Susanna, who finished off a swift counter-attack to make it 2-1 (67'). AC Milan reacted well again and, after a chance for Salvatore Rinaldi, got back level in the 72nd minute. Vero shifted the ball upfield through the middle, Hasegawa dummied for Tamborini, who grabbed her second goal of the campaign. There was very little action towards the end of the game, with Ganz giving a few minutes to Longo, Šimić and Coda; the latter came close to a winner in injury time.
