GIACINTI GOOD FOR THREE MORE POINTS: 1-0 AGAINST ROMA

Valentina's penalty in the second half gives the Rossonere a big win at Vismara

On matchday 8 in Serie A Femminile, AC Milan took home three vital points. At Vismara, under the watchful eye of the Club's board, a Valentina Giacinti penalty was the only goal in a 1-0 win over Roma. The Rossonere had to work hard for the win and suffered for long periods of the game, but it's a victory that is so important in their season. After a bland first half, in which the away side were well on top, the Diavolo fought back into it after half time and won the all-important penalty.  Our captain, who after Napoli was once again decisive, remained ice-cool from the spot. This win takes the Rossonere back into second place in the league, just three points behind league-leaders Juve. Next for our girls: away at Cesena on matchday 2 in Group F of the Coppa Italia.

MATCH REPORT

It was a hard-fought game from the off. Roma were more aggressive and looked to get on the front foot, though Korenčiová denied Bartoli's headed effort and Giugliano's long-range shot with little difficult. After a quarter of an hour, Thomas' shot flew over the crossbar. AC Milan did not hit their heights in the first 45 and struggled to cause the guests any problems. In the 33rd minute, Dowie had ago but the shot was underhit. The Rossonere's hearts were well and truly in their mouths in the 41st minute as former AC Milan player Giugliano's effort slid just past the post. It was an intense game but largely devoid of goal-mouth action. Goalless at the break.
The second half saw a continuation of the intensity, though tensions on the pitch began to rise. The Rossonere flipped a switch in the 55th minute and almost took the lead; Giacinti's effort went just wide. The turning point came in the 56th minute. Baldi made a mistake from the kick out and was forced to touch the ball twice. This is forbidden by the laws of the game and was punished with a red card for denying the Rossonere a clear goalscoring opportunity. From the ensuing free-kick, Tucceri Cimini was inches away from grabbing the opening with a powerful left-footed shot. In the 70th minute, the Diavolo took the lead from the penalty spot. Dowie (fouled by Pettenuzzo) won the spot-kick and Giacinti converted it, sending the keeper the wrong way. The Giallorosse, down to ten men, tried to respond instantly. In the 75th minute, Giugliano missed the target. Before full-time, Piptone denied both Vera and Giacinti, while Dowie missed a chance to double AC Milan's lead. 1-0 to the Rossonere at full-time.
