THE ROSSONERE CONTINUE THEIR FLYING START

A brace from Giacinti and a strike from Dowie seal AC Milan Women's third consecutive victory

Three wins out of three: it's been a flying start so far in the league for Maurizio Ganz's Rossonere, who overcame Pink Bari without much difficulty at the Vismara. Fittingly, the Rossonere sealed their third win with three goals, with the match finishing 3-1: Giacinti opened the scoring, while Dowie doubled the lead, before Giacinti scored once more for the host's third. The Rossonere's attacking duo are looking more and more comfortable with one another, especially given the fact that the Rossonere captain scored her first two goals of the season tonight. Natasha Dowie has now scored three goals this season, and she is looking more and more prolific, getting back into a real rhythm, as we saw with the assist she provided to Giacinti for the Rossonere's third. Christy Grimshaw's performance is certainly worthy of a mention, playing a central role in some crucial passages of play in the run-up to the first two goals. Next up, the international break: the Rossonere will return to action in the league in October with a crucial match against Juventus, and thanks to today's win, they will come into that tie with a perfect record.

MATCH REPORT

The Rossonere absolutely dominated the first half, swiftly finding the lead in the second minute: Grimshaw put it on a plate for captain Giacinti to head home, with her first goal of the season. The Rossonere didn't let up, with Valentina looking for a second in the fourth minute: she got the shot off, beating Pink Bari goalkeeper Myllyoja, but she was ultimately denied by the post. However, Grimshaw picked out Dowie in the 24th minute, who found the net with a right-footed strike to make it 2-0 to AC Milan Women. With half-time approaching, Claudia Mauri had a pop from outside the box, but her effort struck the top of the crossbar.

At the start of the second half, the Rossonere continued their bombardment: Bergamaschi turned in the rebound after Agard's free kick, but it was ruled out for offside. In the 54th minute, Giacinti won a penalty but was unable to convert from the spot, with her mishit shot ending up safely in the hands of Myllyoja. A few minutes down the line, in the 57th minute, the Rossonere struck the woodwork yet again, with Giacinti's header rattling the bar. However, the AC Milan Women captain managed to redeem herself almost immediately: in the 58th minute, she got on the end of Dowie's assist and made it 3-0 to the hosts, with her second of the match. However, the away side managed to reduce the Rossonere lead in the 78th minute thanks to a goal from Soro, who took advantage of Korenčiová's indecision following a free-kick and headed home a consolation. In the final stages of the match, Mylloja got the better of Dowie with some mind games as she looked to score a fourth, denying the Rossonere number 10 a brace.
