A FANTASTIC FOUR: THE ROSSONERE WIN THEIR COPPA ITALIA DERBY

Milan come away with a resounding 4-1 win over Inter at the Chinetti

The Rossonere’s second Milan Derby of the season also ended with Milan on top, as Coach Maurizio Ganz’s side came away with a thumping 4-1 win over Inter at the Chinetti Stadium in Solbiate Arno, securing a place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. The game was decided in the first half, as Longo found the target just 20 seconds after kick-off, goals from Hovland, Lady Andrade and Čonč all coming shortly after. The second half was just a case of seeing out the game, with Alborghetti grabbing back a consolation goal for the Nerazzurri. Milan now face Fiorentina in the quarter-finals, who progressed after winning 5-0 away to Ravenna. Laura Fusetti will be ineligible for the first leg having been sent off at the end of today’s game.

MATCH REPORT
Maurizio Ganz stuck to his standard 4-3-3 formation, with Valentina Bergamaschi slotting into the back four alongside Hovland, Fusetti and Tucceri Cimini. Carissimi played with Jane and Čonč in midfield, with the trio of Valentina Giacinti, Lady Andrade and Longo up top. It was the latter of these three, born in the year 2000, that brought the game to life just seconds after kick-off with her first goal of the season, poking it past the onrushing Aprile for the opener. Milan took advantage of the great start with a second right away: following a corner in the sixth minute, it was Hovland who this time beat Aprile with a powerful left-footer into the roof of the net. The Rossonere found their third in just the 15th minute, Lady Andrade adding her name onto the scoresheet with a driven finish. Bergamaschi missed two chances to make it four, but it wasn’t long until another arrived with Čonč’s shot on the turn in minute 37: the Slovenian’s third goal in two Derbies. Inter looked to shake things up in the second half: Regina Baresa and Lisa Alborghetti tried to cut the deficit, with one effort getting through in the 65th minute. However, the only drama left was Fusetti’s red card and Piazza’s debut, with Milan coming out on top at the full-time whistle.
