THE CURTAIN CLOSES WITH AC MILAN THIRD

The Rossonere lost 2-1 at home to Chievo on the final day of Serie A Femminile

Serie A Femminile has come to an end with AC Milan's dream of winning the Scudetto and qualifying for the Champions League fading on the final day. It was always going to be tough with Milan needing a win while hoping that Juventus and Fiorentina would slip up which they didn't. In the end, the Rossonere didn't have to look to other results after losing 2-1 at home to Chievo at the Comunale di Cerro al Lambro. The result sees Milan finish third with 51 points from 22 matches. Valentina Giacinti was top scorer. It was a tough afternoon and there was a sense of disappointment but lots of applause for Coach Morace and her team in recognition of all they've achieved. In their first Serie A season, the team won 16 times and was in the title race until the final day, also making the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia. It's a record all should be proud of. This is just the start and the foundations are solid and there will be more adventures in the future. Well done girls and thank you!

MATCH REPORT

It was difficult to name the Milan side with Giacinti, Bergamaschi and Mendes all unavailable. Chievo started on the attack, with Korenciova making a great save in the seventh minute to keep things level. From free kicks, Boni fired wide in the 12th minute before Giugliano hit the wall in the 16th minute. The Rossonere grew into the game, Sabatino narrowly missed with a header in the 24th minute. In the 42nd minute, Motta stopped Coda in the area as she was about to shoot. After the break, the visitors broke the deadlock. Carissimi mishit a backpass, Pirone pounced to beat Korenciova who also had to go off injured after the collision. Milan looked to fire back but without creating too much in the way of chances and Giugliano's effort which hit the side-netting was the main one of note. Chievo scored a second in the 68th minute from Tarenzi at a corner. After a Heroum shot in the 74th minute, Alborghetti got one back in the 82nd minute with a low shot across goal. It wasn't enough however and Ceasar had to make a miraculous save at the end to deny Chievo a third.
