AC MILAN LIFT SUPERCOPPA TROPHY!

The Rossoneri fought back from behind to beat Inter in Riyadh

An amazing win, a brilliant comeback. The Supercoppa Italiana is Rossonero, Riyadh is Rossonero. AC Milan beat Inter 3-2 in the final, reclaiming the derby after the league and lifting the trophy. We haven’t won the Supercoppa Italiana since 2016 and we haven’t won a title since the Scudetto in 2021/22. It’s been a difficult few months: we deserve this. It was a rollercoaster game: we were two behind at the start of the second half and won it 3-2. Tammy Abraham bagged the winner, the man of the moment at the death. Not to forget Hernández’s long-awaited goal, Pulisic’s gem and Leão’s return to action.

The squad’s performance was moving, in the most difficult moment came a gigantic call to action to silence problems and criticisms in front of an eternal rival. At Al-Awwal Park, the Diavolo played a great first half despite the goals from L. Martínez and Taremi in precarious moments, then the Rossoneri pressure ensured us the Supercoppa. Sérgio Conceição’s is a big job, our new coach was able to bring energy to the group in just a few days and stoke our atmosphere: from Juventus to Inter, two glorious wins. Milanisti, now is the time to celebrate and for our pride for these colours to return. SuperMilan, SuperCampioni!

MATCH REPORT
Prudence and focus on the restart. In the 6th minute, Bastoni picked out L. Martínez and Thiaw did well to get there first. In the 10th minute, Reijnders collected the ball from Pulisic but crossed badly. Then the chances game: in the 12th minute, Taremi headed a ball from Barella wide and Reijnders had a nice move in the 15th minute though failed to get the shot away. In the 22nd minute, Maignan put in a brilliant stop on a dangerous ball from Dimarco. AC Milan were organised and created opportunities: in the 30th minute, E. Royal tried a shot from distance but was blocked. Mkhitaryan had a go in the 38th minute but it was a weak and imprecise shot. In the 41st minute, Jiménez put the ball into the middle, and Bastoni stopped Morata ready to shoot. Right before the break, Inter opened the scoring: an aggressive counter, Taremi for L. Martínez who shot past Maignan.

AC Milan were dealt another blow at the start of the second half as the Nerazzurri doubled their advantage in the 47th minute: De Vrij played a ball over the top for Taremi, who calmly slotted home to make it 2-0. However, the Rossoneri responded immediately: in the 52nd minute, Hernández curled a free-kick low into the bottom corner to get AC Milan back in it. It was a lively affair: Maignan denied Mkhitaryan (54’) at one end, while Thiaw couldn’t quite convert at the other (55’). We were certainly looking threatening, with Sommer keeping out a Pulisic header (61’) and Bastoni making a last-ditch block to foil Reijnders after some good work by Leão (62’). There was a huge opportunity in the 65th minute as Sommer did brilliantly to save a Morata header. With 71 minutes on the clock, Inter broke forward and C. Augusto hit the post, with Maignan stopping the ball from crossing the line. The Diavolo continued to display real heart and were rewarded for their efforts on the 80-minute mark: Hernández pulled it back for Pulisic, who took a touch before drilling into the far bottom corner to level the match. In the 84th minute, Dumfries volleyed over from a corner, while Maignan smothered an effort from Taremi two minutes later. With three minutes of normal time to go, Maignan thwarted Dumfries with a brilliant stop after Thiaw had slid in to stop Frattesi in his tracks. It seemed like the final was heading to penalties, but then the winner arrived: in stoppage time, Pulisic played in Leão, who rolled it across for Abraham to win it for the Rossoneri. Full-time!
