INTER v AC MILAN: FUN FACTS

Rossoneri statistics heading into the second leg of the Champions League semi-final

Inter v AC Milan in numbers. Tied in with the derbies, the Champions League, the past and the first leg. We are also playing our semi-final second leg from a statistical perspective.

SEMI-FINAL SECOND LEG
The 2007 semi-final is the most recent one, dominated Manchester United 3-0 after the first leg knockout, but AC Milan have won several semi-finals in the second leg: in 1957/58, 4-0 against Manchester United, to 1994/95, 2-0 against PSG; and in between, the resounding 5-0 against Real Madrid in 1988/89.

DERBIES AND KNOCKOUT STAGES
After beating Inter in the first match of the season, in September in the league, Milan have lost their last three derbies between the Supercoppa Italiana, Serie A and the Champions League, all without scoring despite attempting 31 shots in these matches. The Rossoneri have never had four goalless games in a row against the Nerazzurri in their history... It will again be played at San Siro but AC Milan will be the away side and have won only one of their last sixteen away matches in the Champions League knockout phase (8D, 7L), against Bayern Munich in April 2007 (2-0). The Rossoneri have scored fifteen goals in twenty-four away matches in the Champions League knockout stages.

COMEBACK, THE PREVIOUS ONE WITH ORIGI AS THE STAR
In the history of the Champions League, only one team has won the first leg of the semi-final by two or more goals and then been eliminated: in 2018/19, Barcelona failed to get through against Liverpool, winning 3-0 at Camp Nou but losing 4-0 at Anfield. On that night, AC Milan striker Divock Origi scored a brace, including the fourth and decisive goal.

GIROUD IN THE BOX IN EUROPE
All of Giroud's 23 Champions League goals have been scored inside the penalty area. Since 2003/04 (the season from which the data is available), the French striker has been the player with the most goals scored in the competition with 100% of these coming from inside the box.

FROM TONALI TO LEÃO
Sandro Tonali is first in the Champions League 2022/23 for chances created (7), more than a player like De Bruyne for example. Rafael Leão (37) is second only to Vinícius Jr. for successful dribbles and duels won (63), fifth for touches in the opponent's box (56). Olivier Giroud (16) is fourth in shots on goal.
