Records to be achieved and trends to be dispelled. AC Milan v Salernitana, on Monday for the 26th Serie A matchday, is a match that holds a lot of importance. Let's find out more, with our usual trivia and stats on the match.
SAN SIRO A FRIEND
AC Milan have three home wins in as many previous fixtures against Salernitana in Serie A, which have come by a combined score of 7-2. The first was in January 1948, 2-0, then a long break before the 3-2 win in January 1999 and the 2-0 win in December 2021. In this Serie A season, at home, the Rossoneri have won nine out of 12 matches (1D, 2L). The Granata, now coached by Paulo Sousa, have suffered a lot at San Siro since their return to Serie A: since the start of last season, Salernitana have lost all three matches played in Milan against AC Milan and Inter, with an aggregate score of 9-0; at no stadium have the granata conceded more away goals in the period (nine also at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo).
DEFENCE IN GREAT FORM
AC Milan have kept a clean sheet in their last two home league matches, the same number of home clean sheets recorded in the rest of the current season (two from the first 10). Overall, in five of the last six matches, the Rossoneri have managed not to concede a goal. Only Fiorentina, in the recent league fixture, have managed to score against the Rossoneri in the last month. Salernitana have also managed to put together a defensive record and have not conceded a goal in two Serie A matches, after 12 games in a row of goals conceded; the Granata have not registered at least three clean sheets in a row in the top flight since May 1999, with Francesco Oddo at the helm (a run of five).
BLUE MONDAY
Monday nights in the league have had mixed fortunes for AC Milan, who have failed to win their last two Serie A matches played on a Monday: last season, there was the 0-0 against Bologna on 4 April 2022 and 1-2 defeat against Spezia on 17 January 2022, the last win they had on a Monday was on 23 August 2021, 1-0 against Sampdoria at the Ferraris. Salernitana, who have never won in their four Serie A matches played on a Monday, had remained unbeaten: after three draws recorded in 2022, the Campani lost their last Monday game, against Verona on 13 February.
AND IF IBRA...
Zlatan is in contention to start on Monday night, which he has not done in Serie A since 23 January 2022. Against Salernitana, Ibra will be chasing several feats: the Granata could become the 38th different side the Swede has faced in Serie A and the 33rd against whom he has found a goal in the competition. Should he find a goal, Ibra would become the oldest goalscorer in the competition's history (41 years and 161 days), overtaking Alessandro Costacurta (41 years and 25 days, in May 2007). Zlatan (155) is also close to equalling Roberto Mancini, Luigi Riva and Filippo Inzaghi (156) in 21st position among players with the most goals scored in Serie A history.
