The Rossoneri enter their third competition of the season: AC Milan v Torino is a match that boasts many previous, even recent, fixtures in the Coppa Italia and represents our debut in an important competition where there is a great desire to perform. While waiting for the kick-off at San Siro, let's have a look at some statistics and fun facts related to our Round of 16 match.
A FREQUENT CHALLENGE
For the third time in the last four seasons, the two teams will cross paths in the Coppa Italia. The many previous encounters mean that AC Milan are the team Torino have faced the most in their history in the competition (24 previous matches), and no fewer than five challenges have already been played in the Round of 16. The Rossoneri played more against Lazio and Sampdoria in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia than against the Granata: the last, in order of time, dates back to the 2020/21 season with the 0-0 after 120 minutes followed by Pioli's team's victory on penalties.
POSITIVE STARTS
This will be AC Milan's first game of the season in the Coppa Italia, while Torino have eliminated Palermo (3-0) and Cittadella (4-0) in previous rounds. In the last thirteen seasons, the Rossoneri have always passed the first round in the competition and have conceded only six goals (never more than one per game) in their last 13 matches in the Round of 16.
ROSSONERI DRIBBLING
As many as three of the top four players for successful dribbles in the 2021/22 Coppa Italia - only including the matches from the Round of 16 onwards - were from AC Milan: Rafael Leão finished top of the table with 18, Brahim Díaz was second (tied with Dušan Vlahović) with 10 and Theo Hernández, with nine successful dribbles, finished at the foot of the podium. The French full-back also provided three assists in last season's competition: no player did better.
DUEL IN THE DUGOUT
The first Coppa Italia clash between Stefano Pioli and Ivan Jurić comes after eight previous meetings in Serie A and an even record: three wins for the Rossoneri coach, three draws, two wins for the Granata coach. The Croatian coach lost the only previous game against AC Milan in the competition (2015/16 Round of 16) while Pioli is unbeaten in his four meetings with Torino in the Coppa Italia, with three wins and one draw. Only one coach in the Rossoneri's history, Nereo Rocco, has not suffered a defeat in three consecutive Coppa Italia matches against the Granata: in the event of a positive result in the San Siro challenge, Coach Pioli could draw level.
