It is the first-ever AC Milan v Monza in Serie A, yet full of significance. Newly promoted for the first time in their history, fresh with a new coach and a few years with Berlusconi and Galliani with the club, it will be a short journey to San Siro for the Biancorossi. A fascinating fixture, let's take a look at the most interesting facts related to our 11th match day:
FIRST TIME, OR NOT
Never in Serie A, but AC Milan and Monza had already faced each other in Serie B; the Rossoneri won all four of their meetings in the second division, in the 1980/81 season with Massimo Giacomini as coach and the 1982/83 season under the leadership of Ilario Castagner. For the Biancorossi, who will be the eleventh Lombardy team to face the Rossoneri in Serie A, it will be their first match in Lombardy of the whole season; until now, they have only played Atalanta of the Lombard teams (losing 0-2 at the U-Power Stadium in September).
POSITIVE STREAK
AC Milan have won all six of their last home games in Serie A against newly promoted clubs, without having conceded a single goal in the process. In general, it hasn't been since 1992/93 that the Diavolo did not win at least seven of the first ten matches in Serie A in a post-Scudetto season, in that year they repeated the title.
ATTACK
Only PSG have scored more goals (five) from counterattacks than AC Milan (four) in the top five European leagues so far. Tonali's goal against Hellas Verona had been AC Milan's second this season scored in a direct attack (only Sassuolo and Lecce have registered more, three): The Rossoneri team have registered the most direct attacks in the league (31). Putting offensive statistics behind: AC Milan is second in the league for shots attempted (176), behind Napoli (202), and also the team to have completed the most successful dribbles (83).
DEFENCE
In 2022, no other team has registered more clean sheets than AC Milan in home matches in the top five European leagues: nine, in fifteen matches, alongside Fiorentina, Liverpool and Real Sociedad; however, the Rossoneri have only kept a clean sheet in two of the five home games so far this season. Only Roma (151), then, allowed fewer balls into their own area to their opponents than AC Milan (166).
GETTING TO 100
The next appearance will be number 100 in the Rossoneri shirt, in all competitions, for both Ante Rebić and Rade Krunić. The Croatian, in particular, has provided the most assists when coming off the bench in this Serie A (two) and one of the four players - at three - to have actively participated in the most goals after coming off the bench (one goal and two assists).
