Matchday ten of the league is upon us and the Rossoneri will be in action against Verona at the Bentegodi, one of the unforgettable stages of our path to the Scudetto in May. But this will be a different game, in a new and unpredictable season: we need to pick ourselves up after the defeat at San Siro against Chelsea, to find our third successive win in Serie A and continue our journey. Ahead of the match, we analyse some stats and facts:
LET'S CRANK IT UP TO FOURTH GEAR
The Rossoneri are looking for their fourth consecutive win on Veronese turf: AC Milan have actually won their last three games at the Bentegodi (1-0 in September 2019, 2-0 in March 2021 and 3-1 in May 2022) and and aims to make it four in a row, a streak that hasn't happened in the top flight against the Gialloblu since 1978-83. Of the 60 meetings between the sides, Verona have won just ten (29 wins for AC Milan and 21 draws) and all of these have been at home, with their most recent win coming in December 2017. The last draw at the Scaligeri's ground was in December 2000, with goals from Bonazzoli and Ambrosini to make it 1-1.
FRIENDLY AWAY GAMES
So far AC Milan's 2022 has been special for many reasons, and for some truly remarkable stats as well. They are the only team in Serie A to be unbeaten away from home in 2022 (in 13 games they have won nine and drawn four) and are one of three teams - among those who played in both 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons - unbeaten away from home in Europe's top five leagues this calendar year (Barcelona and Manchester City being the other two). Verona, on the other hand, are looking to find some form at the Bentegodi, because since May (their 3-1 loss against AC Milan on 8 May 2022), The team now coached by Bocchetti has lost five home league matches, the same number of home defeats recorded in the entire previous year (five between May 2021 and April 2022).
MIDFIELDERS ON TARGET
Sandro Tonali, Tommaso Pobega and Rade Krunić. All three of our midfielders have scored our last three goals in Serie A, in that order, against Verona. Most recently on 8 May 2022, on matchday 22 of the campaign, Tonali scored his only ever Serie A brace, and that remains his last goals in the league to date. In Torino colours, Pobega scored against the Scaligeri in December 2021 (1-0 to the Granata at Grande Torino), whilst Rade Krunić scored a beautiful free-kick in March 2021 at the Bentegodi making it 2-0 to the Rossoneri - after Dalot's goal - which remains his last goal in Serie A as well.
THE COACH'S MILESTONE
Against Verona, Stefano Pioli reach the milestone of 150 games in charge of the Rossoneri in all competitions, becoming the eighth coach in our history to do so. So far the Coach's record reads: 84 wins, 37 draws and 28 losses. Specifically, Pioli has won seven of the last 12 matches in which he has faced Verona, including the three most recent ones. On Sunday he will face newcomer Salvatore Bocchetti, who has just taken over from Cioffi and is a former AC Milan player, by the way.
