CHELSEA v AC MILAN: FUN FACTS

Key facts ahead of matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage

AC Milan travel to Stamford Bridge to try and stretch their lead in their Champions League group against a bottom-of-the-table Chelsea side who are still in search of their first win of the season in Europe. Pioli's boys are dreaming of a historic feat against an opponent, the Blues, whom the Rossoneri have never beaten in the continent's top competition. Let's take a look at the most interesting numbers and statistics of this Chelsea v AC Milan match:

HEADS OR TAILS
AC Milan's only victory against Chelsea came in February 1966 in the Round of 16 of the Fairs Cup: 2-1 at San Siro. A third game was required to decide that round (the return leg had also ended 2-1) but this was drawn 1-1 and so the Londoners went through by virtue of a coin toss

ITALIANS AT STAMFORD BRIDGE
Not just AC Milan. The Blues' pitch has proved hostile to many Italian teams. Chelsea have only lost two of their 13 home games in Europe against Italian teams (8 wins, 3 draws), both in the Champions League: 1-2 against Lazio in March 2000 and 0-1 against Inter in March 2010.

THE LAW OF THE EX
Olivier Giroud, could become the tenth former player to score against Chelsea in the Champions League, and the first since Loïc Remy, for Lille, in December 2019. The French striker played 119 official matches for the London Club, scoring 39 goals in all competitions.

AN EXCELLENT START
The progress of Pioli's squad has led to a noticeable improvement in the Champions League, where AC Milan have remained unbeaten after beating Dinamo Zagreb and drawing against FC Salzburg. The Rossoneri have already amassed the same number of points (four) as they did in their six group stage matches last season (1 win, 1 draw, 4 losses).
