We're almost there, Matchday 38 and the last game of Serie A 2023/24 is rapidly approaching to finish off our season. It's a game to play things out in the best way possible and bring the fans at San Siro some final joy. For some, it will be the time to say goodbye in person to the fans that have shared in their highs and lows, and to make it a proper party there has to be the desire to close the book with a good result. All this and more in AC Milan v Salernitana: let's go deeper into the three keys to the game with our Briefing.
HEADS AND APPROACH
Motivation is a driving factor in games like these. AC Milan and Salernitana have little to play for in terms of points, but both will want to close out their season with a victory. The Rossoneri simply as it is a game to win, and the Granata as a point of pride after finishing a difficult season bottom of the table. Relegation to Serie B has inevitably brought negative results to the Campani, but Colantuono's side have shown they still know how to fight and drew 1-1 against Juventus in the most recent away game. Opening the scoring could ensure the Pioli's side tip the game into their favour and get the result, and to do so, AC Milan could count on Olivier Giroud's desire to do something. What better way to say goodbye than with a goal?
LEARNING FROM THE PAST
Two different but decisive draws. The last game at San Siro saw a lead given away in one of the rare opposition chances and in Salerno, we paid dearly for two mistakes. It was a different Salernitana in both cases, more fired up, lively and motivated, but the two games taught us a lot. The 1-1 draw at home in March 2023 was defined by wasted chances, as the single goal shows - scored by Giroud before Dia brought the visitors level - despite the 24 shots attempted. It was 2-2 in the December 2023 away game, AC Milan went ahead but were surprised by a one-two from Fazio and Candreva. Salernitana has often made life hard for AC Milan, but the individuality and technical skill of the Rossoneri remains superior, though it will be absolutely forbidden to lose focus.
SEARCHING FOR A GOAL
AC Milan has scored consistently across the season and will want to finish off strong. The Rossoneri are close to 100 goals this season, big numbers that haven't been surpassed for 12 years. The Granata have conceded 78 goals, the worst defence in the league and 19th worst attack, with only 29 goals scored. The edge is there, at least as we begin, to entertain the whole stadium. There will be a definite push on the pitch from those who have played the least so far and decide to show their skills, but the players up front will also be the ones to decide the game. Leão, Giroud, Pulisic, Chukwueze, Okafor and Jović will all want to up their numbers and pursue personal records, on the other side, all eyes are on Tchaouna, a true Granata revelation.
