PIOLI: "WE MUSTN'T SETTLE"

The third fixture in eight days on the horizon for the Rossoneri, who are preparing to round up the busy streak by going to visit Napoli after the great performance against Lazio and Juventus. On the eve of Serie A's matchday 32 scheduled for Sunday 12 July at 9:45 pm, Coach Pioli spoke at the pre-match press conference at Milanello, awaiting the team's departure for Naples. Here are all his statements:

NAPOLI
“They’re a great team, Gattuso has given them the right mentality and a good style of play. They won the Coppa Italia and have emerged victorious in almost every match since the restart. Like us, they are in excellent form. We have great respect for Napoli, but we also need to be aware of what we’re capable of and make the most of the excellent spell we’re going through. We can and need to put in a great performance.”

RICH GOALSCORING VEIN
“We’re scoring a lot of goals. In the past, we’ve always created numerous opportunities but were missing a clinical edge. At the moment, we’re displaying more precision and determination, including when it comes to the decisions we’re making. This is bringing great benefits.”

FOCUSING ON THE PRESENT
“Looking back doesn’t help. I arrived when the season had already begun, but it takes time to implement your ideas and methods. It takes time to build a team. We’re working hard and we’re working well, the players are always at my disposal. I don’t know if the Club has already made a decision regarding next season. We need to think about the next seven games and focus on giving our all, because we can only take stock at the end. Before the period of inactivity, we were seventh. We’re still seventh now, and none of us would be satisfied with finishing the season in this position. We’re not happy with our current league position, it needs to be improved.”

INDIVIDUALS
“The middle of the park is always a key area when it comes to building up play: Bennacer and Kessie are putting in great performances, both on an individual level and as a pair. Leão has talent, this is innate but needs to be cultivated over time. I’m very happy with what he’s doing, the important thing is not how much you play but how you play. He’s displaying quality and is reaping the rewards, and will soon do so as a starter. Will  Saelemaekers play? The selection choices I make don’t just depend on the condition of the players but also the characteristics of the opposition. As is the case for everyone at the present time given how we’re playing, Alexis deserves to have faith placed in him.”
