The Rossoneri had a racing start to the season before a respectable stretch of matches before the second international break; between mid-October and mid-November, however, the Rossoneri’s campaign has come to a sudden halt, especially in the league. The home defeat to Juventus, thanks in part to playing an hour a man down, unhinged AC Milan’s plans. The Rossoneri have not managed a single domestic victory since then: two draws, not too different from each, against Napoli and Lecce, and a loss to Udinese.
Lots of injuries and bad luck have plagued Pioli’s team in this period. The overall standing in Serie A has certainly not lived up to the heights of the start, which did exceed all expectations. The shining light has come in the Champions League. The 3-0 loss to PSG on Matchday 3 of Group F could have broken the Rossoneri, but rather they showed their true quality in the return match. 2-1 in front of a bouncing San Siro, a vintage AC Milan performance.
The two matches against the Parisians were by no means easy and the Rossoneri expended considerable energy, our commitments in Europe definitely took away some brilliance and sharpness from the performances. The desire was always there, but the three points evaded us both in Lecce and Napoli after a convincing first half. The comebacks suffered did erode the morale but the Rossoneri, under the guide of Pioli, have always shown the ability to get back up after every setback.
Now is the time to regroup, recover from setbacks and start again with our real convictions. The true Diavolo was the one we saw against PSG at San Siro, the aim will be to make the real AC Milan the AC Milan that shows up every week. Upon return, the schedule will be an immediate challenge: Fiorentina, Borussia Dortmund and the revelation of Frosinone, before facing Atalanta, Newcastle and Monza. The December fixtures, and the two at the end of November, will have a big say on the Rossoneri’s year. All united.
