GIROUD MAKES HISTORY AS FRANCE PROGRESS

In bagging the opening goal against Poland, Oli became his country's all-time top goalscorer

France v England will be the second quarter-final at Qatar 2022: this is what emerged from a day of action that involved three Rossoneri players. As he did on the opening matchday during the group stage, Olivier Giroud took centre stage. The Rossoneri No.9 bagged the opening goal against Poland in the 44th minute, with the French going on to win the match 3-1 (Mbappé scored a brace and Lewandowski netted a consolation from the penalty spot). With this finish, Oli became France’s all-time top goalscorer with 52 goals, moving above Thierry Henry, who he drew level with following his double against Australia.

Theo Hernández also took to the pitch at the Al Thumama Stadium, playing the full 90 minutes (Giroud was replaced by Thuram after 75 minutes). On his tenth appearance for his country, he produced a tidy and attentive display. Olivier and Theo’s World Cup journey will now continue against England at 20:00 CET on Saturday 10 December at the Al Bayt Stadium. Indeed, the Three Lions beat Fodé Ballo-Touré’s Senegal 3-0 (Henderson, Kane and Saka got on the scoresheet). The AC Milan man came on for the final six minutes, making his debut at Qatar 2022 in the process.
