Three Rossoneri took the field on the third day of the 2022 World Cup, all playing in the two matches scheduled in Group D.
Simon Kjær's unremarkable opener for Denmark against Tunisia was no more than a goalless draw. The Danish captain was on the pitch for 65 minutes in the Education City Stadium match, guarding Schmeichel's goal and delivering his usual flawless defensive performance.
On the night of Al Wakrah, France enjoyed a dream start against Australia at the Al-Janoub Stadium. The early shock, with the Socceroos unexpectedly taking the lead, did not faze Deschamps' boys, who brought the match back into the balance with Rabiot's header from Theo Hernández's delicate assist - who came on in the 13th minute due to his brother Lucas's injury - and then turned it around with Giroud's easy tap-in. In the second half Mbappé and Oli's second fixed the final score at 4-1.
Amongst the Bleu's line-up, the performances of the two AC Milan players certainly came out on top. An excellent impact on the match from Theo Hernández, the France player who engaged in the most duels during the match (13) and was second in terms of chances created (4), less only than Antoine Griezmann (six) among those on the pitch.
A double against Australia finally cemented Olivier Giroud into the elite of the French national team, allowing the Rossoneri's number 9 to draw level with Thierry Henry, France's all-time top scorer with 51 goals, and to become France's oldest goalscorer at the World Cup (surpassing Zinedine Zidane). Furthermore, at 36 years and 53 days, Oli is the second oldest player to score a brace at the World Cup after Roger Milla in 1990 (38 years and 34 days).
