CALABRIA AND TONALI FEATURE FOR ITALY, PLAIN SAILING FOR KJÆR AND BENNACER

The two Azzurri men come on as substitutes in Olimpico draw, while Simon and Isma enjoy comfortable wins

Four Rossoneri players took to the pitch for their respective countries yesterday evening. Simon Kjær started and played the full 90 minutes as Denmark ran out 3-1 winners against the Faroe Islands. The Danes, who are captained by the AC Milan man, had already progressed to the World Cup and have now continued their exceptional qualifying form: nine matches, nine wins, 30 goals scored and just one conceded (in added time at the end of the second half yesterday).

Calabria and Tonali also featured for Italy, with both taking to the pitch as substitutes in the Azzurri’s showdown with Switzerland at the Olimpico. Sandro replaced Locatelli after 58 minutes, while Davide came on for Emerson with 80 minutes on the clock. Italy were held to a 1-1 draw by the Swiss, meaning direct qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will come down to their final group match against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday.

Ismaël Bennacer, meanwhile, was selected as a starter and played the first half as Algeria comfortably beat Djibouti 4-0. The Rossoneri No.4 was replaced at half-time by Mahrez with the score at 3-0. The African champions are currently top of Group A of the World Cup African qualifiers with 13 points, two ahead of Burkina Faso, who they’ll meet on Tuesday.
