Parma and AC Milan face each other in Serie A once again after more than three years. In the 1990s, their encounters were a Serie A classic and featured Italian and European Super Cup finals. The last Serie A match between them was in April 2021, where AC Milan won 3-1 at the Tardini with goals from Ante Rebić, Franck Kessie, and Rafael Leão. One of the most unforgettable recent matches was the 4-5 on 14 September 2014, which we revisit today.
The 2014/15 season was only on Matchday 2 when Filippo Inzaghi's AC Milan started off strong with a 3-1 victory over Lazio. Two key players from that game, Jérémy Ménez and Keisuke Honda, continued their form at the Tardini. However, it was Giacomo Bonaventura who opened the scoring in this incredible match, netting his first-ever goal for the Rossoneri with a precise left-footed shot (25'). The first half was end-to-end. Cassano equalized with a header (27') and Honda restored AC Milan's lead with a winning header from an Abate cross (38'). Before the break, the Rossoneri extended their lead with a penalty earned and converted by Ménez. The second half began with Milan holding a two-goal advantage, which was immediately reduced by Felipe, who was quickest to react to Jorquera's shot and put the ball in the net.
With just a one-goal lead and playing with one man less since 58' following Bonera's sending off for a second yellow card, Nigel de Jong stepped up to restore the margin with a goal of his own. He won the ball back, battled through two challenges, and broke away towards the goal, finishing with a right-footed shot past Mirante. Parma wasn't done yet. They struck again to make it 4-3 with a header from Lucarelli (73'). The hosts were also reduced to 10 men after Felipe received his second yellow card. On 79', Jérémy Ménez pulled off a stunning piece of skill with a majestic back-heel goal after rounding the Parma keeper. The score was 5-3, but there was still one more twist. A bit of misfortune for AC Milan, as de Sciglio scored an own goal. The rollercoaster ride ended at 5-4, leaving behind an unforgettable match even a decade later.
