Big and unique wins, measured and precious victories. Fiorentina v AC Milan has lots of history full of importance and memories. We have selected some of them, from the spectacular 7-3 in 1992 to the 1-0 in 2008 and 2-1 in 2010 in the sign of Pato, retracing them in brief to recap ahead of the next Serie A match on Saturday 4 March at 20:45 CET at the Stadio Franchi.
4 OCTOBER 1992: AC MILAN HIT SEVEN
It's not often you score seven goals and win 7-3, it's almost a record and it happened on a festive afternoon thanks to an inspired and memorable attacking line. Curiously enough, it was the hosts who opened the dancing, but it was Capello's men who were firing on all cylinders: three braces, in order, from Massaro, Gullit and van Basten. Further goals were scored by Lentini for the Rossoneri, and Effenberg and Di Mauro for the Viola. At the end of the season, for the second year in a row, the Diavolo became champions of Italy for the 13th time, while Fiorentina, coached by the former Rossoneri Radice and the young Batistuta, were relegated.
3 FEBRUARY 2008: HE CAME, HE SCORED, HE CONQUERED
In the middle of winter, but the stakes were hot. The second half of the season had just begun, even if Fiorentina v AC Milan resembles an early play-off for Champions League qualification. Ancelotti choose Kalac in goal and Gilardino in attack, with Pato on the bench. And it was the Brazilian, a recent arrival in Italy and already decisive, who proved to be the wild card: on the pitch in the 66th minute, scoring in the 77th minute to make it 1-0. At the Franchi, in a tense match condensed by the woodwork at each end and some great wasted chances, in a battle where the real Rossoneri warrior was the Australian goalkeeper who performed a miracle at the end of the match, the Diavolo collected a crucial victory. It was enough to fight for, but not to reach fourth place, which slipped away at the end of the season in favour of the Viola.
10 APRIL 2011: RACE FOR THE SCUDETTO
In Florence, AC Milan cannot make a mistake, but the task is difficult. After the joy of the 3-0 win in the Derby, Ibrahimović and his teammates didn't want to and couldn't stop because the fight for the top spot remained fierce. Pato was in fantastic form: an assist for Seedorf's goal, a couple of big chances wasted and above all the goal to double the lead. A show of strength despite a negative ending, with the red card to Ibra - and consequently his disqualification in a delicate period - then for Vargas' goal which only served as a consolation (2-1). It was one more step towards the eighteenth Scudetto.
