UNDER-17, DERBY WITH DISTINCTION

The derby was a delight. AC Milan U17 continued their stellar run of form with a dream derby day following a record start to the season. Nine wins from nine matches are making the headlines, but it's the constant performance of this team that leaves us speechless. For the best of reasons: 27 points, 36 goals scored (an average of four goals per game) and heaps of quality.

Last weekend, the Rossoneri smashed Inter 4-0 at the PUMA House of Football. It was a prestigious victory, one much admired by the team's coach, Giovanni Renna. "We knew it would be tough, as all derbies are. Our aim was to keep improving in terms of the growth of every individual player. Our duty is to get them into the right condition to get an opportunity to get to higher and higher levels."

The key performances on the day were Simone Lontani and Christian Comotto, who scored a brace apiece (with goals from both in either half). Lontani, who is the team's leading goalscorer on ten, kicked off the party and then wrapped it up. Fun fact: both players are underage, having been born in 2008 but playing with the 2007 cohort. "Well done to Simone and Christian," Renna said, "but well done to the whole team as well. They're playing so well, growing thanks to hard work and the group. Feet on the ground. We need to move on from what we've done and think about what needs doing tomorrow."

Up next for our U17s it's Lecco away. This is a new and potentially even more stimulating task given that our hosts are currently second behind AC Milan (by eight points). The Diavolo are flying high and already have an eleven-point lead in the race for automatic qualifying, and there are 13 points between them and the playoff places. One step at a time, though, as they will need to stay strong and enough to not let up. For now, though, bravi ragazzi!
