YUNUS MUSAH: OUR FOCUS

From New York to Milano: let's get to know our Rossonero midfielder better

The Rossoneri midfield, a much-renewed department, welcomes another new face in Yunus Dimoara Musah. A highly versatile midfielder, despite his young age - he will be 21 on 29 November - he boasts important experience between both club and international football. The new Rossoneri number 80 comes from Valencia, the team with whom he made his professional debut and has established himself for his reliability and skill in a highly competitive league like La Liga.

Yunus was born in New York, but he came to Italy with his family of Ghanaian origin at a very young age, to Castelfranco Veneto. It was here in Italy, and in particular in the Giorgione Academy, that he learned how to play football, before transferring, at 12, to the prestigious Arsenal academy. At the Gunners, he impressed his coaches with his physical characteristics and above all the character and determination that he showed on the pitch. A second turning point in his football development came in the summer of 2019 when, at the age of 17, he joined Valencia, who immediately included him in their second team, which plays in Segunda División B.

He progressed to the First Team in the next season, 2020/21, making his official debut in La Liga at 17 years and 8 months against Levante. He is the first American and English footballer; whilst Yunus was making his way through the ranks at the English youth set-up, he made his debut with the Taronja club. On 1 November 2020, he became the youngest foreign goalscorer in the history of the club, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Getafe. In his three seasons at Valencia, he has played a lot (108 appearances in all competitions), scoring on five occasions and playing in midfield roles: defensive midfield, Mezzala, on the side of midfield and even as an attacking Trequartista. One of the keys to his game is versatility, knowing how to combine his physical strength with good basic technique that also makes him adept at building up play.

We have already talked about the important experience he has, but it doesn't end at just the Arsenal Academy and at Valencia. In November 2020, after representing England at U15 and U18 levels, Yunus accepted the call-up from the United States: His debut came on the 12th of that month, in a friendly against Wales. Musah starred in the qualification for the 2022 World Cup and, above all, he was involved in each of Team USA's four matches together with Christian Pulisic. Before joining AC Milan, he also won the CONCACAF Nations League 2022/23, a competition in which he also featured in the best XI at the end of the tournament.
