A HIGH TEMPO 2023 FOR THE ROSSONERE

Four wins from five in the league, into the next round in the cup: great start of the new year

Four wins in five league matches, two wins in three Coppa Italia matches and qualifying for the semi-finals. The year 2023 for the AC Milan Women started with many positive notes: with the exception of the unfortunate loss in the Derby, the Rossonere collected only useful results with several important indications.

Parma, Sampdoria, Juventus and Pomigliano in Serie A; Lazio and Fiorentina twice in the Coppa Italia. Six wins and one draw, with only two goals conceded (against the Bianconeri and against the Viola in the cup) for a defence that has mostly settled down after a complicated start to the season. The five clean sheets collected in this first month and a half of the year are already more than the three collected in 2022.

There are several reasons for this important change of direction: the return to a four-man defence, with the excellent inclusion of newcomer Aniek Nouwen, and the performance between the posts of Laura Giuliani, who starred with a couple of decisive saves against Pomigliano, and Selena Babb, a starter so far in the Coppa Italia fixtures, stand out.

Not only defence, though. So far this year, AC Milan could count on a Martina Piemonte in exceptional form: the Rossonere number 18 scored four times in the league and in three consecutive matches, a streak that is her best since 2016/17. With the usual - and solid - forward contribution of Asllani and Thomas, the Rossonere can also boast an offensive trident that arrives in the best possible way at the decisive moment of the season.
