ROSSONERE, IT'S TIME FOR ONE FINAL PUSH

The Coppa Italia returns after victory in Vinovo: the situation

Like running on a bicycle: sprint, stumble, recover. The sprint was the restart, the great start to the new year. The stumble came in the derby, with a defeat that was difficult to digest. The recovery against Juve, winning away just as they did at home thanks to a great performance. There are only a few kilometres to go before the grand prize at the end of the race, and the Rossonere are not letting up: pedalling hard, head down, focusing on improving their current position before they head towards the finish line.

A convincing win in Vinovo has provided a huge boost. With the three points in the bag, in hindsight one can say that winning away to the reigning champions was the only chance of keeping hopes of finishing in second place alive, a position previously occupied by the Bianconeri and now chased down by Fiorentina, with all-important Champions League qualification at stake.

The point gap has closed but remains sizeable (6), so AC Milan cannot afford to take their foot off the gas. All the more so because the next opponents in the league are the ones who proved costly against Ganz’s side last year: from the potential stumbling block at Pomigliano to the game against Como. This is not the time to slow down after Saturday's triumph; on the contrary, it is time to pick up the pace, and to do so with heart and courage.

Now it’s time for the Coppa Italia, the next challenge awaits. The Rossonere host Fiorentina in the second leg of the Quarter finals on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 12:30 CET. They will go into the tie with a 1-0 lead thanks to Piemonte, who continues to become the attacking focal point of the side, with the opportunity to make the semi-finals of a major competition. After the sprint, the stumble and the recovery, AC Milan now face the final push.
