AC Milan's Women's First Team will get their year underway with a visit to Serie B league leaders Lazio in the Coppa Italia, in what will be their final game in Group F. Maurizio Ganz's Rossonere face the Biancocelesti knowing that two out of three potential results will take them through to the quarter-final stage.
That is thanks to a 2-0 win for AC Milan away at Ternana on 2 November, while Lazio beat the side from Umbria last September 2-1. In fact, if both sides finish on the same points the group winner will be the team with the better goal difference. There have been two previous meetings, both dating back to last season when our ladies won 8-1 at Formello, with the return fixture a closer affair with AC Milan eventually coming out on top 3-1.
Getting through to the next round in the Cup would be an important step for Ganz's side, who will be looking to have their say in a competition they have always reached the semifinals (with the exception of the year of the pandemic). In a league campaign that has been tight and characterised by some surprise results so far, that cannot be said about the Cup, with results going as expected.
Nine sides out of ten from Serie A - the only exception being Parma - won their opening group game, giving themselves the best chance to book their quarter-final spot. Out of the eight groups, two top-flight teams will be knocked out (Como vs. Roma and Parma vs. Inter) in this first phase, that will then be followed by a full draw for the quarters and semifinals that will, as usual, be a two-legged fixture.
