AC MILAN v FIORENTINA: THE SOCIAL CORNER

The Rossoneri players' farewell posts to fans before the international break

AC Milan fought, suffered, and eventually won right at the death, ending a historic year for the Club in the best possible way. Thanks to win over the Viola, Stefano Pioli's players were able to send the San Siro faithful off in great style, staying behind at the final whistle with a lap of honour. Many of them also went to their social media pages to express their thoughts; let's take a look at them.

Aster Vranckx was the star of the show and played an unexpected and decisive role in this final game of 2022. His introduction towards the end had a significant impact on the game, as it was his cross that eventually resulted in the match-winning goal being scored. The young Belgian has already taken the Rossoneri supporters' hearts after they voted him as MVP for the first time. It is a satisfying moment for a player who could well provide further important contributions in 2023.

Also Sergiño Dest's appearance in the second half gave a timely boost to the team as the former Ajax player repaid the faith shown in him by Pioli. The American full-back, who is now off to Qatar with the USA, still had time to celebrate with "great victory" over the Viola before throwing himself into "World Cup mode". Good Luck Sergiño.

Malick Thiaw couldn't contain his happiness after lining up for his second consecutive start against Italiano's side. The former Schalke 04 defender left on his social pages a liberating "Yesssssssss!" commenting: "Tough game but we take the win. Bravo!".

San Siro also said its goodbyes to Rafael Leão who posted afterwards: "See you soon". The Portuguese wanted to leave his mark against the Viola and end an extraordinary year, that now sees him represent Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar. Boa Sorte Rafa.

"Tough game but three vital points!" was the message on Instagram by Olivier Giroud, after turning provider for Leão's opener and giving a typical unselfish performance to the team. Also Oli now heads off to the World Cup, a tournament the forward goes into as a current champion and with one of his best campaigns in his career.

Fikayo's scream is one of the best images to come out of the win over Fiorentina. His goal-line clearance from Ikoné was worth just as much as a goal, and is already a candidate for one of the top plays of the season. The British Bulldog celebrated the three points and sent his greetings for next year. See you soon Fik.

Bennacer enjoyed a sea of AC Milan love for the umpteenth time and underlined the doggedness of a group that has never given up, writing "fighting right until the end." Also for Pioli's central midfield linchpin it is time for a rest, and to stat preparing for the second half of the season. "See you soon" Ismaël.

Closing out this edition is Sandro Tonali who wanted to share the excitement and emotions from the pitch to his followers. For the Rossoneri number eight, he said "It has been an unbelievable year", characterised strongly by the warmth and enthusiasm of the Milanista faithful, who have never stopped filling up San Siro, and who Tonali wanted to honour in his post-match farewell post. See you in 2023 Sandro.
