From Tuesday to Sunday, in a year that couldn't have started any better. After the MVP award in AC Milan v Cagliari, Theo Hernández once again won the majority of fans' vote on the AC Milan Official App following Empoli v AC Milan. Joining the Frenchman on the podium are two of the scorers in Tuscany yesterday afternoon: Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Chaka Traorè.
Also praised by the head coach after the match, Theo put in another great performance at the heart of the defence at the Castellani; he is increasingly becoming assured in this rather different role. It's one born out of an emergency, with the French full-back stepping up to the plate in this new position in recent weeks. His response on the pitch has been one of a true leader, whose performances continue to get better and better.
What stood out from the Rossoneri's success in Empoli was certainly his diving header in the six-yard box to block Maleh's attempt, a piece of play that preceded Traorè's goal to make it 3-0 just a few moments later; the closing stages of the game could have been very different. Alongside his excellent defensive work, there was also the invaluable contribution in organisation, demonstrating how Theo always remains central in the Rossoneri's shape.
At the Castellani, Hernández was in fact the best Rossoneri for attempted shots (two), given that this goes hand in hand with 89% of successful passes and two tackles won in 90 minutes, where he also covered over 10km on the pitch. A total, all-round performance to contribute to a return to winning away from home: well done, Theo!
