MVP FOR JANUARY: RAFAEL LEÃO

Decisive and relentless, Rafa performed best in the month just gone

Unstoppable, tireless, decisive. Rafael Leão returned to the pitch against Roma on 6 January after a month on the sidelines and immediately left his mark. After scoring against the Giallorossi, he provided two assists against Venezia and then found the net against Spezia and Genoa (in the Coppa Italia). His return to action was highly anticipated after a difficult December for the Diavolo, and now he’s been voted by the Rossoneri fans as the MVP for the month of January.

The Portuguese youngster played five times in the opening month of the year and performed exceptionally well, often bringing a change of pace and producing many decisive pieces of play. As games go by, his growth and consistency are there for all to see, with such talent needing to be cherished.

In total, Rafa played 305 minutes in January, scoring three goals, registering two assists, creating twelve chances (more than any other Rossoneri player) and having 14 shots, nine of which were on target and seven of which came in Serie A. Only Abraham and Immobile (nine each) had more efforts at goal than Leão in the Italian top flight last month.

Furthermore, together with Berardi and Milinković-Savić, Rafa was one of three players who scored at least two goals and provided at least two assists in Serie A in January. In short, the numbers of an MVP.
