MVP FOR NOVEMBER: SANDRO TONALI

The Italian midfielder picks up his second MVP of the month award this season

Very rarely have AC Milan been found wanting in midfield this season, and one of the reasons for this is Sandro Tonali. Alongside fellow midfielder Ismaël Bennacer having picked up October’s award, Tonali has now won the MVP prize for the month of November, his second such recognition this campaign after his excellent displays in September. For the native of Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, it’s further proof of his fantastic start to a season where he’s been a standout performer in Serie A, so much so that he recently regained his place in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad.

In November, during which he started four of AC Milan’s five matches, Tonali shone thanks to his consistency. From his free kick in the Derby that led to de Vrij’s own goal through to his excellent Champions League displays against Porto and Atlético, he continued to show why he’s become an increasingly important part of Coach Pioli’s tactical setup.

After many encouraging signs in training and during friendlies in pre-season, he hasn’t stopped improving during the opening period of the campaign. The numbers are testament to this, like, for example, his 84.4% pass completion rate in November, a month where he was also the Rossonero that created the most goalscoring opportunities in Serie A.

December has also begun well for Tonali, who completed 95.1% of his passes against Genoa. Furthermore, he made three interceptions - more than any other AC Milan player. The hope is that these performance levels will continue during the final month of 2021, a year that has been important for the whole Rossoneri family. Well done, Sandro!
