During the First World War Ernesto Morandi was one of the favourites of Milan’s fans who enjoyed watching him, so lean, decisively face much bigger opponents. Generous, pressing and tenacious, he soon became one of the favourite players of his fellow citizens also thanks to his Milanese nature and loyal attachment to Milan jersey for eleven seasons, albeit in a very difficult period. He won the Federation Cup in 1916, equivalent to a Scudetto that was however not recognised as such by the Federation.
