His debut in top-flight football was with the Scottish club Greenock Morton. With Leeds he faced AC Milan in the European Champion Clubs' Cup final and lost; after the good performances displayed also with Manchester United, Joe Jordan arrived at AC Milan in 1981, close to his thirties. His first season was neither particularly brilliant nor lucky, but the following year was another story; he significantly contributed to Milan's return to Serie A with 10 goals.
