The head of a family deeply etched in the history of Milan, Cesare Maldini joined the club in 1954, after playing for Triestina. A right back endowed with a superb individual technique unmatched by any other defender of the time, he eventually made the move into the heart of defence, first playing as a stopper, then as a sweeper. In 1963 he became the first Milan captain to lift the European Champion Clubs’ Cup trophy. His abundant honours include four league titles and a Latin Cup.
