Emma Koivisto was born on 25 September 1994 in Helsinki and progressed through the youth ranks at SAPA and HJK, with whom she made her debut in the Finnish Naisten Liiga in 2010. After three great seasons in the top division (seven goals in 61 appearances) she moved to FC Honka in 2013. There, she remained for five more seasons, during which she also got a taste of American college football by representing the Florida State Seminoles. Leaving Finland in 2018, she moved to BK Häcken in Switzerland, where she remained until 2020. These two seasons proved to be important, not just because of her stats (10 goals in 75 appearances), but also because she made her debut in the Women's Champions League. She moved on to England in the winter of 2020, where she spent one and a half seasons with Brighton (four goals in 38 appearances) and two with Liverpool (four goals in 51 appearances), before coming to AC Milan in the summer of 2024. Koivisto has also been an integral part of the Finnish Women's National Team since her debut in 2012: as of May 2024, she has made 96 appearances, scoring four times and taking part in Euro 2022.
