AC MILAN 1991/92 ROSTER

SERIE A

It was Fabio Capello who took over Arrigo Sacchi's legacy with the Rossoneri in the 1991/92 season. Due to the disqualification from European competitions valid for this year, the AC Milan world focused all its efforts on national tournaments: Serie A and the Italian Cup (ended in semi-final). The start to the league campaign was positive, and thanks to an important winning run between October and November, the team established itself at the top of the table. AC Milan did not slow down, still in the top spot at the end of the calendar year never having lost a match, and collecting important results against rivals such as Roma (4-1) and Napoli (5-0). The second half of the season was even more electrifying. Opened by two 4-goal wins against Ascoli and Cagliari, the Rossoneri racked up victories and mind-boggling scorelines, also beating the Scudetto-winning Sampdoria 5-1. The victory in the derby in April launched the Rossoneri towards the title, which became a reality two days before the end of the season: the 1-1 draw on the pitch in Napoli marked, in fact, the mathematical victory of Scudetto number 12 in Rossoneri history. Van Basten was the top scorer with 25 goals, and the zero defeats in the entire championship confirm a record-breaking season, hence the nickname "Gli invincibili" (the Invincible). 56 points out of 68, the result of 22 wins and 12 draws - AC Milan was the first team to ever win Serie A unbeaten, while the 74 goals scored - finished off by the hammering of Foggia (2-8) - make up an average of over two goals per game.
