AC MILAN 1982/83 ROSTER

SERIE B

The 1982/83 season kicked off with several changes. The team is entrusted to Ilario Castagner, while Franco Baresi is the new captain at just 22 years old, Mauro Tassotti and Alberico Evani remain in the team despite numerous movements in the transfer market by the Club. With a renewed and rejuvenated squad, AC Milan started off strongly in the league with the intention of establishing themselves in the top positions without too much effort and returning to Serie A. The Rossoneri finished the first half of the season in the second spot in the table, one less than Lazio who led, but with full confidence for the rest of the year, thanks also to the constant, invaluable presence of their supporters. The journey also proved solid in the Italian Cup. In the first round, the Rossoneri placed second in their group thanks to 3 wins in 5 matches, subsequently beating Cagliari in the round of 16. The elimination only came in the quarter-finals against Hellas Verona, when the rule for away goals rewarded the Veneto side following the two draws in the home and away legs. The 5-1 win over Lazio at San Siro (matchday 34) confirmed their presence at the top of the league, finishing 8 points ahead of the Biancocelesti. The 54 points won in 38 matches brought AC Milan back to the top division, while the thirteen different goalscorers over the season highlighted the spirit and unity of the AC Milan group.
