AC MILAN 1978/79 ROSTER

SERIE A

After finishing fourth the previous season, AC Milan's 1978/79 side bounced back from their premature elimination in the Coppa Italia at the start of the campaign to win four and draw one of their first five league games. The first half of the season saw the Rossoneri compete for top spot with Perugia, a surprise package. At the halfway stage, AC Milan sat in first place with 25 points to their name. The second half of the campaign started with a defeat to Avellino, but it was only a temporary bump in the road. Indeed, the Diavolo then went on a seven-game unbeaten run and took a giant stride towards the title with a 1-1 draw away to their nearest challengers, Perugia. Three successive victories over Torino, Hellas Verona and Catanzaro propelled AC Milan towards their tenth Scudetto, which was sealed on 6 May against Bologna at San Siro. Bigon (the team's top scorer that campaign with 17 goals), Maldera and Chiodi (13 and eleven goals, respectively) all made a key contribution, as did captain Rivera, who retired at the end of the season, leaving the captain's armband to Bigon.
