2024 STARTS WELL FOR THE PRIMAVERA: 0-2 AGAINST FROSINONE

The Rossoneri are back to winning ways in the league with a goal each half

The Primavera have started their 2024 with a convincing away win. Against Frosinone, a goal from Diego Sia and an own goal from Palmisani in the dying minutes gave the Rossoneri all three points: 2-0 the final scoreline on matchday 16 of the Primavera 1. An intense and complicated game, topped off by less-than-perfect pitch conditions, with the deadlock broken in the first half and the game put to bed in the dying moments despite Stefanelli’s sending-off that forced the hosts to play a man down at the end of the match. The win rewards the admirable spirit of the AC Milan group.

Thus, the Primavera are back to winning ways in the league after the impressive draw in the derby and then the defeat at home to Hellas Verona. The Rossoneri now sit at 30 points in the table with many positives to take away from the game for Abate’s side, from the squad’s sacrifice to various individual performances, including that of Scotti as a full-back. Two fixtures are coming up this week: on Wednesday 10, they will face Fiorentina away in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals before being back at the PUMA House of Football on 14 January to play Torino. Forza ragazzi!

MATCH REPORT
The start of the game is intense but without any real chances, AC Milan attacked on different fronts but didn’t manage to find the right space to surprise the tight Giallazzurri backline. In the 26th minute, Frosinone had their first chance with Selvini from the edge of the box who didn’t manage to find the net. The Rossoneri responded by going ahead in the 29th minute: Cuenca slotted one through to Camarda and the number 9 delivered it to Sia who found the back of the net from close range: 1-0, AC Milan ahead at the break.

Abate’s side managed possession well at the start of the second half, without going deep. In the 52nd minute, Liberali had a go with a powerful left-footed shot that ended up over the bar. The game was a well-balanced hard-fought battle, but Stefanelli’s sending-off in the 67th minute left the hosts a man down and AC Milan tried to double the lead. Simmelhack was right to it in the 68th minute, Sia made a run into the box and shot in the 72nd minute, and Palmisani denied both of them. The final moments are dramatic and in the 95th minute, Palmisani mishandles a cross from Cuenca and puts it in the back of the net. It ends 0-2 for us!

POST-MATCH COMMENTS
"It was important to get back to it with a good performance and three points" said Ignazio Abate after the game. "It was a difficult away fixture, many players are missing but the lads gave it heart and spirit without looking for excuses. At the end we needed to be more brutal to put it to bed sooner, we go home with more faith".

"It was a rough game but we did well to get on top" - said Diego Sia. "We go home with 3 important points, good not to have conceded. I am very happy to have scored but it is the result of a team effort so I want to thank my teammates, now we will focus on the game in Florence".
