VIAREGGIO CUP: WOMEN'S PRIMAVERA LOSE IN FINAL

The Rossonere create plenty of chances but ultimately fall to defeat: it finishes 1-0 to Brøndby

A match where luck simply wasn’t on the Rossonere’s side. The women’s Primavera lost 1-0 to Brøndby in the final of the third edition of the women’s Viareggio Cup, a result that didn’t reflect the team’s efforts on the pitch. The first half was dominated by AC Milan, who missed at least five big chances. And then came the sucker punch at the very end of the opening period, with McEwen scoring a perfect free kick.

Corti’s side continued to control proceedings after the restart, showing plenty of heart. However, a final siege on the Brøndby goal didn’t bring any rewards. Despite today’s outcome, our Primavera side’s first involvement in the women’s Viareggio Cup is one to remember, with the team having gone on a fantastic journey that saw them reach the final. Well done, girls!

REPORT
The first half saw AC Milan create numerous chances, but they weren’t able to finish any of them off. The biggest ones fell to Cortesi and Selimhodzic around the half-hour mark. First, Serena received the ball from Miotto and fired wide with her left foot from close range. Then, Noa created space for herself before letting fly with a right-footed strike that hit the bar. With the half coming to an end, Miotto and Dal Brun also had efforts at goal. McEwen punished the Rossonere in first-half injury time, beating Cazzioli with an unstoppable free kick.

The second half began with a big opportunity for Avallone, who wasn’t able to make a proper connection with the ball after good work from Boldrini. The Danes then almost grabbed a second as Saini struck the woodwork. It was a rare attacking move from Brøndby, who continued to be pinned back by the Rossonere. Crevacore and Ronchetti came close after 69 and 81 minutes, respectively. Two minutes from time, Dal Brun thought she’d scored a deserved equaliser from a tight angle, but Karsen cleared it off the line. It just wasn’t to be for AC Milan, but our girls deserve great credit for a fantastic display.
